Where You Should Go
The two primary social media sites are Facebook and Twitter. Millions of members have created close-knit communities to share their updates, photos, interests and more. And, since businesses have jumped zon the bandwagon, social media has become a form of word-of-mouth advertising – but on a much larger scale. Here’s how they work:
Facebook at a Glance
To get your business on Facebook, you would need to create a Facebook Page (it's completely free). This type of account is different from a personal Facebook account and is designed specifically for businesses and organizations. When a personal user "Likes" your business, they become one of your "fans" or "friends" and will receive your updates in their News Feed. They’ll also be able to share your news with their friends, who can share it with their friends...etc.

Twitter at a Glance Twitter is a microblogging website that lets users send messages (or tweets) to their "followers." Tweets can be up to 140 characters long and are displayed on the user's profile page for the public to view. Businesses often create Twitter accounts (also free) to keep their customers informed about special events, promotions and anything else people would find interesting.

Why You Should Be There
It's easy to see why Facebook and Twitter have become popular in the business community. When people share your website on social networking sites, they're creating inbound links which can help your website rank higher in search results. If these people have hundreds of friends, they're giving your business unbelievable exposure. This kind of endorsement will encourage more people to visit your website. And, we can't forget that social networking sites are great places to interact with customers and learn more about their needs. There are just so many advantages when it comes to reaching out to your customers through this medium.
Not on Facebook or Twitter?
You don’t need to have a Facebook Page or Twitter account to put your business in the social media spotlight. Simply adding a share button to your website and email campaigns will give everyone the opportunity spread the word for you! But we do recommend that you create a dedicated Facebook Page and Twitter account for your business. You'll be able to build your network and notify all of your friends and followers when you want to broadcast updates to your website, new blog posts or special email offers.
Give Social Media a Try
Encourage people to spread the word about your business. Go to your Extras menu and add social media buttons to your website, blog and email campaigns. One customer could put your business in front of thousands more. It just takes one click to get the ball rolling.
