That depends on the shape you choose. Here's a rundown of our business card sizes and thicknesses by shape:
- Standard: 3.5" x 2"
- Rounded Corners: 3.5" x 2"
- Square: 2.5" x 2.5"
- Circle: 2.5" diameter
- Oval: 3.5" x 2"
- Leaf: 3.5" x 2"
Business card thickness is measured in "points," abbreviated as "pt." The higher the number, the thicker the card. Standard business card printing uses 14pt paper stock, but weights can vary by paper type. For instance, our ultra thick custom business cards are 28pt, and our premium plus cards come in at 18pt.
Note: Square and circle business cards exceed the height of a standard wallet. Consider one of our other options if you're looking for wallet-sized business cards.
Also, when designing or choosing a business card template, remember that dimensions may include a "bleed area," which is extra space for images, patterns or design elements that extend beyond the cut edges. This helps prevent having white edges around your finished card.
See our business card size guide for detailed info on business card sizes in pixels, bleed area and more.
VistaPrint is here to make creating new cards online as simple as possible. Start by uploading a completed design, or browsing our ready-to-use templates in a range of styles. When you find something that fits your needs (and personality), you can add your own custom text, logo and even images. Then, you can fine-tune the font, layout and colors until you're satisfied.
For the best print quality, we recommend uploading images at 300 DPI or higher, in PDF, PNG or high-resolution JPEG format. Our templates include a safe zone (extra space around the edges) for text and a bleed area, so your design prints cleanly to the very edge of the card without any unwanted white borders. And of course, you can always check out your card in a 3D preview to make sure everything's just right before you order.

You want to find something that matches up well with both your industry and your personality. Thicker, heavier stocks can work well for businesses trying to project strength and reliability. More textured, unique finishes are a great choice for craftspeople and artists. And if you go for a standard or rounded corner business card, finishes like embossed gloss and foil accents can help almost any design be extra eye-catching. Special finishes appear on the front of the card, while the back has a smooth, matte surface that’s easy to write on.
Looking for something a little extra durable, eye-catching or, well… just plain extra? We also offer alternative options like plastic business cardsand even painted edge business cards.

It depends on how you'll use your card and the impression you want to make. Here are some of the highlights of each:
- Matte (and uncoated) finishes are easy to read and write on, making them a solid choice if you or your clients like to jot notes, but they also have a subtlety and elegance that goes a long way for consulting or marketing agencies.
- Glossy finishes bring out vibrant colors and make photos pop. They’re great for design-forward or photography brands.
- Soft touch has a velvety, premium feel in hand – a go-to for high-end clothing and home goods stores, or any networking moment where tactile appeal can make a real impact.
